The Callは、1980年にカリフォルニア州サンタクルーズで結成されたアメリカのロックバンド。2000年に解散するまで、20年間で9枚のスタジオアルバムをリリースした。代表曲に、アル・ゴアの2000年の大統領選挙のキャンペーンのテーマソングとして使用された「Let the Day Begin」などがある。
1983年にリリースされた「Modern Romans」は、The Callのセカンドアルバムで、彼らの音楽的な成熟と洗練を示す作品。アルバムはポストパンクやニューウェイヴの影響を受けながらも、独自のサウンドと壮大なメロディが特徴。シングル曲「Walls Came Down」や「Everywhere I Go」などが収録されている。
「Modern Romans」は、批評家から高い評価を受け一部のファンからも熱烈な支持を得た。アルバムはリリース当初は商業的な成功には至らなかったが、後にカルト的な人気を築いた。
